appearing offline under WLM

under windows live messenger when I sign in everyone is seeing me as offline.
but when I sign in through the hotmail webmail,I am seen as online and I am
wondering why or what is causing it.

Server problems tonight that's all. If you log in using alternative means (like Hotmail or
some of the older clients) you get better results though.
