Through Stupidity I have lost all the icons in Management Tools and wish to
re-instate them, but don't know how. Your help would be appreciated.

Thank You
Milgar

Is the following folder missing or empty?

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools

If so, you'll have to recreate the shortcuts that resided there. The
following shows:

Name
Target
Start in
Comments

Computer Management.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s
%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
Manages disks and provides access to other tools to manage local and remote
computers.

Data Sources (ODBC).lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\odbcad32.exe
%SystemRoot%\system32
Maintains ODBC data sources and drivers.

Event Viewer.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
%SystemRoot%\system32
View monitoring and troubleshooting messages from windows and other
programs.

iSCSI Initiator.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\iscsicpl.exe
%SystemRoot%\system32
Connect to remote iSCSI targets and configure connection settings.

Memory Diagnostics Tool.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\MdSched.exe
%SystemRoot%\system32
Check your computer for memory problems.

Print Management.lnk
%systemroot%\system32\printmanagement.msc
<blank>
Manages local printers and remote print servers.

Reliability and Performance Monitor.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\perfmon.msc /s
<blank>
Diagnose reliability and performance issues and collect performance data.

Security Configuration Management.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\secpol.msc /s
<blank>
View and modify local security policy, such as user rights and audit
policies.

services.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc
%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
Starts, stops, and configures Windows services.

System Configuration.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\msconfig.exe
<blank>
Perform advanced troubleshooting and system configuration

Task Scheduler.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\taskschd.msc /s
<blank>
Schedule computer tasks to run automatically.

Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.lnk
%SystemRoot%\system32\WF.msc
%SystemRoot%\system32
Configure policies that provide enhanced network security for Windows
computers.

The folder also contains a desktop.ini file with the following contents:

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21762
[LocalizedFileNames]
Memory Diagnostics Tool.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\MdSched.exe,-4001
System Configuration.lnk=@%systemroot%\system32\msconfig. exe,-126
Reliability and Performance
Monitor.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\wdc.dll,-10021
Data Sources (ODBC).lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\odbcint.dll,-1310
Windows Firewall with Advanced
Security.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\System32\AuthFWGP.dll,-20
services.lnk=@%systemroot%\system32\filemgmt.dll,-2204
Computer Management.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\mycomput.dll ,-300
iSCSI Initiator.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\iscsicpl.dll,-5001
Event Viewer.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\miguiresource.dl l,-101
Task Scheduler.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\miguiresource .dll,-201
Print Management.lnk=@%systemroot%\system32\pmcsnap.dll,-700
Security Configuration
Management.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\wsecedit.dll ,-718

You'll need to set the read-only attribute (use the attrib +r command) on
the folder for the desktop.ini file to be processed by Explorer.
