Application compatability pack?

Hi!

I'm trying to get C&C Generals working on Vista and many people have said
that the Application Comatability Pack from Windows Update has the fix to
this. However, I can't seem to find it anywhere on the Windows Update client,
it hasn't been installed recently and if I try to install it manually then it
says it's not needed on this system or something like that. Am I doing
something wrong here? It's a completely legit Vista Ultimate OEM from Dell. =(

It's possible it has already been installed, if I remember correctly it was
a recommended update and as such would of by default been installed.

The one I'm thinking of was KB929427 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929427

What problems are you seeing with Generals when you try and run it?

It just won't run. At all. The splash screen shows for aobut 40 seconds and
then nothing, not even the generals.exe process running. The link provided
and the 'updated' march link both don't work saying that my system doesn't
need it but the fix is not listed anywhere on Windows Update.
