Well that is the root cause. I've not actually been able to touch a Vaio with this problem
so I haven't been able diagnose the exact component that's causing it.
As a starting point, what you might try doing is using MSConfig or Autoruns to eliminate all
startup apps (the Diagnostic startup option in MSConfig is useful here) and see if it'll
start there. Although it could be anything from a running application to some virtual driver
to a replaced library -- but you have to start somewhere.
You could also try in Safe Mode and see what happens.
