By default all icons are lined up vertically on left side of screen. I would
like to line them up horizontally and sort automatically on the bottom of
the screen. How can I accomplish that?

Not kidding. But you might prefer putting the icons on the Quick Launch bar,
if you want them at the bottom of the screen anyway. If you have more than
the default width of the Quick Launch can hold, it can be expanded. And you
can put it into Auto Hide mode if you don't want to see it when you aren't
using it.
