DirectX9 on Vista is an emulated version and does not contain all the recent
commands. If you download the DirectX9.0c update, DirectX9 will suddenly
work fine for most applications.
Full-blown: (212MB)

Rick and JW thanks to both of you. I tried all your suggestions among
others but unfortunately they didn't work. After many searches,
downloading and installing some "K-Lite Coded Pack" resolved the
problem! Thanks again.
