I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2 (fully updated) and have
recently had difficulty installing two applications, Nero 9 Update and
Nuance OmniPagePro 17, both reporting that they needed MS .Net 3.0 Framework
and that I should go to Control Panel/Turn Windows features on or off. I
found MS .Net 3.0 Framework there and made sure that all three options there
were ON. However the error message still instructed me to navigate to
Control Panel/"Turn Windows features on or off".
I noticed that in Control Panel/Uninstall or change a program (but not in
"Turn Windows features on or off") there is MS .Net 3.5 SP1 Framework.
Thinking that there might be conflict between versions I attempted to
uninstall 3.5 but this proved impossible, or rather I gave up.
I eventually got Nuance 17 installed by ignoring its startup installer and
finding and running its MSI file. This did not work for Nero (and more than
once I went through a rigmarole of using the Nero cleaning utility,
rebooting and trying again) but when I gave up, the earlier build of version
9 installed immediately without requesting .Net.
I am left wondering what I did wrong and feeling uneasily that my installs
might prove fragile.
Anyone know what might be going on here?
Doug.
