I applied SP 2 but my PC still shows SP1 in My Computer Properties

I installed Service Pack 2 long ago and since then have installed all the
Hotfixes, etc. But for all the machines I have, this XP Home Edition still
shows SP1 in the My Computer Properties box.

I purchased MS Project 2007 and it won't install because it says I need
Service Pack 2. But I really did install SP2 and have put a couple years of
fixes on top of it. I'm not sure how to proceed. The MS Update site never
complains about the lack of SP2 and I can't believe I should try to install
SP2 again. Won't that mess up all that subsequent service I've applied? I
don't want to lose this machine. I fear I have bought an expensive copy of
MS Project I can't use.

Any help is most appreciated.

Install error messages are really just binary flags which give the best guess
at a reason for why it failed. Therefore if the reason is nonsensical
it is up to the user to figure out a better reason. E.g. using the messages
in the install log, a verbose log or any other aid to an analysis.

My guess would be that you could have some modules which are *too*
up-to-date and the install program didn't anticipate that, so, using the binary
logic of fail with the best guess, it is acting as if those modules are really
*less* up-to-date than it was expecting them to be, hence you don't have
the pre-requisite, SP2, etc. It would really help if the the install program
would do just a modicum of analysis before issuing its error messages. ; ]

I suspect you would get more knowledgeable help from a Project NG.
This really isn't an issue about WU as much as a setup issue for Project.
Cross-posting for convenience. Another alternative place to look for help
would be the TechNet or MSDN web forums.

Good luck
