apply updates using sus to non-domain machines

We use SUS to control and maintain updates to our network of Win2k and Win
Server 2003 machines. The most vulnerable machine is an ftp server open to
the Internet that sits in our DMZ and is not in the domain, but because it's
not in the domain, we can't see how to use SUS to maintain Windows updates.
We're not the only business with this configuration I'm sure, so somebody
else has already invented this particular wheel! How has everybody else
solved this kind of problem?
