Hi,

We are looking into implementing a 2-node Active:Passive Windows 2003 R2 x64
Cluster (to host clustered x64 SQL), and one obvious (potential) issue
concerns applying Windows updates.

Obviously (one assumes) it is easy enough to apply SPs/Updates to active
nodes, but what about the passive node?

Could someone give some pointers or links re: good/sane practice to apply
updates successfuly to Windows (& by extension SQL patches) Clusters

Thanks in advance

Craig

Actually, you typically want to patch the passive node(s) first, reboot as
necessary and then move resources to the patched node(s) and finish the
process with the remaining nodes. On the other hand, SQL is different...you
must patch SQL on the node that owns the instance. Please refer to -
