way to contact Microsoft and have them broadcast a fix? Of course, Sunday is
Easter,, good luck getting any help this weekend. What a horrible mess.

Take a look at these articles:

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015 (15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

and http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-015.mspx which has been updated 4-15-2006

The first article was published Saturday, and the latter updated also.

See other posts below re: KB908531
e.g.
"All those are related to KB908531. You may give downloading
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads...are-To-Web.zip
a try. Extract the ZIP file and afterwards double click the contained
REG file. Let it import into the registry. See if that fixes the problem
for you without needing to kill any processes running."

see article<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165>
Check to see if you have "HP Share To Web" software on your computer. If you
do, and don't need or use it, simply uninstall it and this will solve the
problem. It turns out to be just a quirky interaction between the Windows
Explorer security update and the Hewlett Packard program. You can easily
uninstall it by going to "settings/control panel/add-remove programs. If you
want to keep the HP program, there is a change to the registry that can be
made (explained in the above article). For me it was easier to uninstall the
HP program since I didn't use it, and it solved my problem completely.

Hi LCK,

I had exactly the same thing happen to me - my updates installed Friday
night and Saturday morning I could do nothing (just when I planned to do our
taxes...) I tried everything - reinstalling Office, the whole works. Finally
came on these lists and got a simple way to get rid of the updates which I'd
rather not have if they're going to wreak havoc on my machine!

This is the simple - not necessarily the best! - solution. Go to your
Control Panel and choose Add/Remove Programs. At the top of the dialog box
will be a place to check "Show Updates." You'll be able to see all of the
updates, along with the date they were made, to your computer. I didn't know
which one was the culprit so I got rid of all 4 of them. I restarted my
machine and everything works again. I'm not sure what the updates were
SUPPOSED to do but I will wait until MS gets the bugs worked out before
installing them back onto my machine.

Good luck,
Donna

I had the problem that Outlook Express wont work - had to do system restore
to an earlier date - twice as I had automatic updates on it was very
difficult to get that off before the updates were added again. Working now
but have no faith to add any more updates as I dont know what to do.

Hello Nina,

Tweak your settings for Automatic Updates:
I'd advise, if you are using automatic updates, you configure it to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them". e.g. do not have it on "full auto".

To get to your settings, highlight / single click My Computer on your desktop > do a RIGHT-Click > select Properties.
Then click on the Automatic Updates tab.

HOW TO: Configure Automatic Updating in Windows XP - 306525

Nina: On Outlook Express issues, see the O.E. group at microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress

If you have update 908531, take a look at these articles:

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015 (article published 15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

and http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-015.mspx which has been updated 4-15-2006

The first article was published Saturday, and the latter updated also.

The first article mentions Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software & Kerio personal firewall. If you have either, you're highly encouraged to read the articles.

If you have Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software, then do see & I'd suggest you apply Freudi's registry patch
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads...are-To-Web.zip
Extract the ZIP file and afterwards double click the contained REG
file. Let it import into the registry.
