KB948881 is the full KB number of the 'Security Update of ActiveX Kill
Bits '. It sets killbits in the registry for some versions of Visual
Studio and Yahoo Jukebox ActiveX components.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS08-023.mspx

Please explain what the following is:

> IE^ Maint upgrade for Active X Sec

Which version of Internet Explorer is installed ?

It appears as if IE has frozen but eventually the screens show. Some IE
windows take as much as 2 mins to load.

IE6: Version 6.0.2800.1106
128bit, SP1

> > IE^ Maint upgrade for Active X Sec

This was meant to say the upgrade included the Active X Kill Bits that you
more clearly stated.

Thanks for your help.

Robert,

To be totally clear on this ... after the installation of KB948881, IE
would freeze on some sites. After installing it, IE still freezes on
some sites.
When you say 'upgrade' are you referring to upgrading IE to Version 6 SP1 ?
Upgrading from a lower version of IE to IE6 SP1 does not include the
ActiveX kill bits update [KB948881], thus my confusion.

Were there any freezing issues with the previous version of IE and what
was that version, if IE was upgraded ?

Sorry to be so obtuse...

When I first launch the browser it takes 1min 30 sec to open google.ca. It
appears that whenever ANY NEW window is opened it requires this 1min 30 sec.
Moving from site to site within the window causes no delay.

I installed the suggested automatic updates that included:
IE6 Cum Sec Update KB947864
Sec Upd for ActiveX Killbits KB948881
Sec Upd for W2K KB941693
Sec Upd for W2K KB944338
Sec Upd for W2K KB945553
Sec Upd for W2K KB948590
Win Mal Soft Removal tool KB890830

I am running W2K Server SP4

Thanks. Are these still UNinstalled ?

IE6 Cum Sec Update KB947864
Sec Upd for ActiveX Killbits KB948881

If yes, then attempt a repair of IE :
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...ial71.html#non

If no, then uninstall them, restart the system, then attempt a Repair of IE
Restart

Does IE perform any better now ?

I have searched the Add/Remove programs and there is no entry for Internet
Explorer or Internet Tools. So, how to repair IE6?

There is no Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools
listed in Add/Remove Programs ?
Win 2K comes with IE5 so, unless IE6 came with a Service Pack, then you
would have had to install it.

Run... (e.g. press Win-R) and enter:

rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

However, if you have uninstalled a cumulative update of IE
doing that is unlikely to help as all that does is re-register a pile of .dlls
during the reboot.

Note for lurkers: this command is not available in XPsp2 or higher level OS.

Good luck
