I have this problem with Winzip 12.0 and Winrar 3.8: sometimes I have to
open such an archive and then after 10 secs they both are halted without any
warning etc. De-archiving with Zip-7 is oke and doesn't cause any error at
all. Can someone tell me what is going on here?

.....but only works partially.....

I use 7Zip also, and unless they've changed it in the last 2 months, using
7Zip, you can not unzip into a non-existant directory. You need to create
the new directory, then use 7Zip to extract to it. This is extremely
annoying.

With both WinZip & WinRAR, you can extract zipfile.zip to c:\temp\zipfile\
if c:\temp\zipfile\ does not exist....either of those will create c:\temp
\zipfile\, and then extract into it.

Must be in the way you are using 7Zip. Extracting from the Explorer
right-click context menu (Extract Files or Extract to [prenamed folder])
always creates a new folder for me.

You are correct !!. I'm now using v4.5.7 and it does seem to do that.

It's go to be version related, and the earlier version I was using didn't
create the directory, which had to be a year or two ago that I installed
it originally.....good to know.

Thanks.
