I found that I also got that error code, 0x8007000e, because I had merged a
registry key for a "Target Group" that the computer was not yet a member of.
By deleting the "Target Group Enabled" and "Target Group" keys, I found that
the uppdate synchronization worked.
PS Interestingly the client had self-updated, and continued to check for
updates to itself. It was the OS updates which could not sync due to this
problem.
