ATAPI incompatible

after install CD-rom and DVD writer,then PC starts, message says Secondary
master n secondary slave - ATAPI incompatible, press F1 resume.However XP
operating system hangs.

remove one or other of the new drives, and se if the system boots then.

I had the same problem after installing NortonAntiVirus 2004. I tried it
uninstalling the program but finally, I had no solution. What can I do? I've
got XP Professional with SPK2. I tried restoring the system to an earlier
configuration, but it didn't work too.

Once NAV is installed, it's very difficult to get rid of all the hooks in
the system

How far back did you go in Restore (not a good idea to go back more than a
week - and the further the worse....)

My best suggestion would be

use RNAV2003 (from the Symantec site) to remove traces of Norton form the
system AFTER you've used the uninstaller (in Add/Remove Programs)

The reboot, and check out the Device Manager to see what is there - and run
either Belarc Advisor and/or Everest Home Edition to confirm it

then post back with details - but NOT here!!!
Go to the more appropriate WindowsXP newsgroups - of which there are many -
try this one first.....

microsoft.public.windowsxp.basic

(or your local variant, so you can get help in your own language, if your
English might be a problem - I can't remember whether Uruguay is SP or PT -
so I'll avoid trying to send you wrong there<g>)
