ATI Technologies Inc. - MOBILITY RADEON update

I installed the "Critical" update for ATI Technologies Inc. - MOBILITY
RADEON and now my machine continously gives me the Blue Screen of Death and
reboot itself. I have a Evo N600c. I was able to recover by using Safe Mode,
going to hp.com website, and installing the Radeon M6-P Driver for Windows
XP.

I recommend Microsoft never make a device driver update a "Critical" update
because of the way they it ties into Automatic Updates. I don't like the
idea of getting "automatically" hosed up. <grin>

Your biggest mistake was updating video device drivers from the Microsoft
site. It has been mentioned more than once in these newsgroups that you must
ALWAYS get updates from the vendor. Period.

I am very ok with that. I can handle this concept, but not the everyday
Windows user.

My main grip is that a video driver showed up as a Critical update which
then kicked off the Automatic Updater which installed it. I like to think
the Automatic Updater is somehow safe to use, but obviously I was sadly
mistaken.
