When I had SP1 the was a USB patch WindowsXP-KB822603-x86-ENU it was great
because it solved the problem that I'm currently having with SP2. So why is
there not a patch for SP2? It is the same problem. Every time I boot up
device manager finds new hardware and looks for software it does this 6 times
and in every case there is no software to be found so in device manager there
is a ? for other devices and 6 unknown device associated with it. If this is
not a USB problem what is it? My motherboard has USB 2.0 installed. My Belkin
4 port hub is a 1.0 Device, does that have anything to do whith this? I had
this problem before with SP1 as I said that patch fixed it.

Hi;

While it does not exactly match the problem you describe, MS has an
updated usbhub.sys file that may help in your case. You will need to
contact MS directly to get the patch, since it isn't available for
download. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;884868 for
contact details.

DrPepper,

Maybe this is too obvious but, are you using the Safe To Remove Hardware
icon in the system tray to remove the USB device prior to unplugging it?
Not doing so would bring about the behavior you're describing.
