Hi Robin,

On May 6, 2006 I posted a question entitled "Windows Automatic Update" and
your reply was : "This is normal, and not a cause for concern. The
Automatic Update agent in your PC has been instructed not to download by the
update server, because the server is already busy enough. Your PC will try
again tomorrow. This
can continue for many days until the pressure on the servers has eased off
enough for your PC's request to be permitted".

I looked at the Windows/Microsoft Update site today and I reviewed my update
history. I noticed that my Windows Defender definitions were updated via
automatic updates as of today 05/10/06. My question is why didn't the other
updates (Security Update for Windows XP (KB913580),Windows Malicious Software
Removal Tool - May 2006 (KB890830) and Windows Genuine Advantage
Notification (KB905474) automatically download?

Look in C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpdate.log for the reason.

"Updates are not downloaded or the "Automatic Updates" icon does not display
the status of downloads when you enable the Automatic Updates service"

There are 3 updates found, but once again due to regulation updates are not
allowed to download. This has been ongoing for 3 plus weeks now. Other than
manually downloading these updates is there anything else I can do to force
the automatic download? Thanks for all your help.

Here are the last 40 or so lines of the Windowsupdate.log file.

Hi Darrell, just manually download the updates and forget about it. Hopefully
automatic WU works next time round.

Hi Kaylene,

I will manually download the 1 missing update, Windows Genuine Advantage
Notification (KB905474).

I find it strange though, that the updates that were just released this week
have now been downloaded and installed, but not the aforementioned update.
It seems to conflict with the Knowledge Base article that the issue of
failure to download is due to the servers being busy...unless the missing
update comes from a different server.
