This new msn has seemed to have caused quite a lot of issues and as described
before: upon login the contacts seem to be lost and my nickname refreshes to
the one that is applied when I send emails. This has only happened to 2 users
out of 4 on my computer and it is the users that use MSN and possibly that
have used MSN Live at all.
The files that are found in: RUN:%userprofile%\contacts - Do not show any
folders of the Profile Users that are effected by this problem only the ones
that aren't. For example: there are no folders in there for
(can't log on successfully), but there is for
(can log on successfully).
The files that are found in: RUN: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts - Show folders of all the Profile
Accounts used for MSN but under the Profile Users that are effected by the
problem have no contents inside their folders. Eg.
does
not have the hidden folders: "real" and "shadow."
The results of this problem are (for my computer) and extended amount of
time is taken to sign on which finally results in opening MSN as if you've
just installed it for the first time and my previous contacts were not
visible. On occasion a random number of contacts would be visible and no
more. MSN reverts back to the name registered for sending emails. As other
people have claimed it works on 7.5. Another discovery I made was that this
also happened once on a computer overseas. I used a nearby laptop to check if
this was a permanent error on my Profile Account and I was logged on fine and
all my contacts were visible (still on Windows Live Messenger). I then logged
off and logged back onto the computer with the error and I was able to log on
fine!
I hope that thats not too confusing and that that can help the Microsoft
Technical Group fix the problem. Please Contact me with any solutions to this
problem as although I'm still adapting to WLM going back to 7.5 is a
downright pain in the ass.

Ben Erickson ()
