Hi guys, I am a WSUS newbie and having problems with a couple of clients (w2k
servers). For some reason they stopped reporting into WSUS server (they have
an informational warning in WSUS admin console that they have not reported
status in 28 days or more).
I have tried the obvious stuff like restarting Automatic update service and
running client diags and they appear to pass OK but in the windowsupdate.log
it seems that AU updates are disabled - see log extract below:

handlers

they have no specific policy applied that i can find that other working
servers have not and have tried
secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy and retarting auto update service
again but makes no difference.
Have searched around the forums and Google etc but no joy
Any ideas of where to look?

This one is really as easy as it looks...

> | 2006-10-25 13:49:23 3748 1460 AU # AU disabled through Policy

Automatic Updates has been disabled by policy.

Export and post the registry key and subkeys from:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUp date

but since it's being reported as "disabled through policy", the most likely
cause is that you've either applied an undesirable GPO,
or you've misconfigured the GPO that is being correctly applied.
