audio clobbered after updates installed

This happened once before then I installed a .NET Framework update. I
did an uninstall and the audio came back. I just installed 11 updates
and lost my audio again. What's going on? I'm getting very frustrated
and don't ever want to update my system again, although I know that is
not wise.

If not, that is the first place to go. If that doesn't help you post back
with particulars about what exactly happens to your audio. Any error
messages when you attempt to play music. Is there any indicators of issues
in the Control Panel, System Manager, Device Manager listing (yellow
exclamation marks)?

Are updates being downloaded and installed in the background? If so,
STOP that and have the system notify you when they are available so
that you can choose when/which to install. Do NOT install driver
updates from Windows. Get them from the mfr... and it's best to not
try to fix what ain't broke.

You can go to Device Manager and try rolling back your sound driver to
its previous version. Give it a try.
