Bought a new laptop with built in webcam and and mic (runs Windows
Vista). Cam and mic both work fine - test seperately but when
using Windows Live, my friend and I can see each other but we can
not hear each other. Any help is appreciated. I don't want to
have to plus an external mic into my laptop because the built in
one should work. help!

Greetings Andrew,

What happens when you try just audio/voice (no video).

vista I have xp. she has a laptop & microsoft web cam 3000. I have a new
sonic monitor with webcam on it. We cannot make the sound work except for
the one time.

Same thing here. I have a new Toshiba laptop running with Vista. I
downloaded Windows Live Messenger 2008 and the headset mike worked for a
short time, then stopped working. I could still hear people, but they could
only hear me through the built in mike. I tested the mike separately and it
worked fine, and then i installed Yahoo messenger and the mike/headset worked
fine,

I deleted Live Messenger 2008 and tried Live Messenger 7.5, but had the
same problem with the mike.

Why is Vista incompatible with Windows Live Messenger for chat?????? Both
are microsoft programs !!!!!!!!!

Please help!!

I had the same trouble but found a work around. I use the phone icon to
call my daughter once we are sound connected I use the web cam icon. Once we
both accept to use the web cam we have both sound & web cam. I have XP & she
has Vista. If we do not connect using the phone alone first we have no sound
with our web cams. Hope this helps
