Audio plays "spontaneously"

Greetings,

I must have a ghost in my pc. Sometimes (it seems like every 3 or 4 days) a
part of a song plays (the same part each time) through my speakers. It lasts
for literally about 2 seconds- it seems like it is the same duration each
time, and seems like the same part of the song each time. I don't think it
occurs at the same time each day, but I haven't noted that as of yet. No
audio programs are opened- (real player, windows media, etc.), and no music
download programs (I-tunes, etc.) are opened either. IE is opened and
sometimes AOL as well. I just changed from an older (XP) machine to a new
vista pc (transferred files) and in the process I thought maybe that would
end this interesting little phenomenon, but it hasn't. I don't recognize the
song, so I haven't looked through my audio files yet to "search". If anyone
has any ideas and/or suggestions (other than me seeing a psychiatrist!) I
would sure appreciate it! Thanks

EdBrian,
thanks for the idea- I looked at the page you provided the link for, and,
although it looked interesting, XP or vista was not listed as one of the
products it applied to- so, unless something similar is set up for xp or
vista, this may not be the cause.
Maybe someone will know if a similar "alarm" system is set up in XP or
Vista. I don't think it would be my cpu fan, but I am connected to an APC
ups, and maybe that is doing something to the power supply voltage? (The song
I am hearing is not one of the two mentioned in the article) Thanks very much
for the idea, though.

Ther was an article in PC magazine about AOL IM having
sounds whenever somebody on your buddy list signs in
or out. Check for that.

Another possibility is at the very top of your buddy list in AIM there is an
advertisement. Sometimes these are ads for music and if your mouse happens
to be up in that area, it will start playing music. In other words the music
comes on when your mouse rolls over that part of the buddy list. Think that
could be it?
