When connected to the internet with an aircard, the audio portion of a video
call does not auto adjust to lower quality (telephone grade) sound when the
bandwidth becomes limited. the video i dont really care too much about, but
audio choppiness is very annoying. this connection will support 24kpbs mp3
broadcasts without interruption, but unless in audio only mode (and sending
webcam seperately), the audio will not auto-downgrade to allow for the
'bursting' nature of evdo or rtt connectivity. is there a registry setting
that can force the audio to telephone grade sound, so the connection will not
become choppy. the other side of my regular connection is on DSL, so it's
not their connectivity that is the issue. I travel all over the country, so
variability in connection speeds and quality is a reality i am forced to deal
with until evdo rolls out nationwide. i'm sure there is a setting somewhere
in windows to do this, but perhaps someone out there already has found it?
also, wonder if there is a way to manually limit the amount of bandwidth
messneger demands out of a connection as well. it tends to auto detect the
'maximum', and not average based on performance of the connection. this
setting would also be helpful.
