I just bought a new cell phone and am tying to use Bluetooth to synchronize
Outlook 2000 via Activesync. I can pair the devices but cannot connect
them. It appears there is a conflict between the phone being assigned COM40
and Activesync's refusal to look at any com ports over COM20.

I have yet to find a solution other than using the USB connection (which
works) or buy a different Bluetooth adapter (I have not tried this).
Neither of these solutions interest me since I have a perfectly good
integrated Bluetooth adapter in my laptop. It works with my Bluetooth
keyboard and mouse.

Phone: Audiovox SMT5600
Phone OS: Windows Mobile 2003SE

Notebook: Dell Inspiron 9300
NotebookOS: Windows XP Pro SP2
Bluetooth Adapter: Dell Wireless 350 (Toshiba Bluetooth Stack)
Activesync Version: 4.1
Office Software: Microsoft Office Professional 2000
Usual Suspect: Norton Internet Security 2005

I should ask a question... does anyone have any ideas on how I can resolve
this?

I haven't totally fixed it but at least I've found a way to get rid of the
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba

from
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...sp?soid=842293

[Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba -> Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack]

1. Download the install program "Bluetooth Monitor for MS stack Version
2.00" or later from the Toshiba WEB site
(http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSu...%200%206344023).

This does not actually install the Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack, it places
this readme on the system desktop and copies the installation executable to
C:\Toshiba\BTMonitor\

2. Open the Control Panel and uninstall "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by
Toshiba", which is currently installed, then reboot your PC.

3. Run BTMON2INST.exe located in the folder c:\toshiba\BTmonitor to install
the Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack. Once installation is complete, restart
the system to complete all changes.

4. "Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack" will be installed automatically. Open
the Control Panel and open "Bluetooth Device" to configure the settings (to
display the Bluetooth icon to the task bar, open "Options" tab and enable
"Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area").

Guess what's working?

After I got rid of the Toshiba Bluetooth stack as instructed in my previous
post, try following the instructions listed at;

http://www.psychoman.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=11.0

The directions are in a pdf in the zip file (titled C500Guide-v1.0.zip)
linked at the bottom of the first post.

The only tweak I'd make to the instructions is when adding the incoming port
on page 8. If the newly added port is not listed as COM7 then:
1) Open device manager
2) Right click on the port (Standard Serial over Bluetooth link)
3) click on the Port Settings tab
4) click the Advanced Button
5) change the Com Port Number to Com 7
6) click Ok
7) reboot and continue at Configure ActiveSync to use the newly created
Bluetooth COM Port at the bottom of page 9.
