August Update No Sound

I have a problem with there being no sound on my computer. Nothing has
changed recently and I've done the obvious like checking mute settings and
checking that my 2 year old boy hasn't pulled cables out! I know it's a
software issue since if I roll back to 4th August using system checkpoints,
hey presto sound is on again. What then was in the updates from Software
Distribution Service on or around 5/6th or from Windows Defender on 5th
August that may have screwed up my sound? No other software was installed on
the system in this period. Every time my PC updates now the sond goes. Can
you fix it Microsoft please?

P.S. No exclamation icons in the device manager or anything else supsicous
unless I should look elsewhere for clues.

Hello Gus,

Go to the Creative website and download the drivers from there. (Is
something aint broke: do not fix it) Windows update is not preferable for
driver updates, if you NEED to update always use the drivers on the
manufacturers site.

Best regards,
Michel Denie

Hi Michel,

Thanks for the reply, I'll check it out when I get home. Fact is though,
nothing was broke! I haven't donw anything to try and update drivers or any
other software. When it's working I leave well alone. All I have on there is
the windows updating service and that seemingly broke it!

Best Regards,

Gus T Butt

Hello Gus,

You are most welcome.

That is why you must not update frivers, only if really needed and not from
MS Windows update.

Best Regards,
Michel Denie

I returned from vacation and installed a bunch of Microsoft updates and lost
all sound. There was also a big yellow question mark in "other" under
"Onboard devices" under system in the device manager. I have a Sound Blaster
card. Somehow the integrated audio entry was ON in the BIOS. Once this was
turned OFF my sound returned and all device manager entries were clean.
