all of a sudden i'm not getting the auto menu [the one that pops up asking
me what i want to do] when i insert a disk into my cd/dvd drive. is there
someplace i can check to see if it got switched off or something? TIA.

It's actually called "AutoPlay" and it's quite simple to enable if it has
been disabled for some reason. Please point to Start>Control Panel>AutoPlay
or "Play CDs or other media automatically" (depending upon view) and choose
the actions you'd like to take place for a given media type. I've seen
AutoPlay stop working for a variety of reasons, but the number one is the use
of drive emulation software or another program that installs a virtual CD/DVD
driver. I hope this helps!

Hi DPM,

Check Auto Play settings in the Control Panel. Also, make sure that
the "Shell Hardware Detection" service is set to (Started/Automatic).
