Auto restarts not near time auto update is set to run

I have windows update set to run automatically every day at 3:00am. However,
the automatic restart (which I gather I'm stuck with from reading this forum)
is not happening anywhere near the 3:00am install time. It seems to happen
randomly without warning anytime during the day. Any ideas on how to stop
this other than turning off automatic updates?

Is the system on at 3 AM ? If not, then change the time that updates are
installed to a time when the system is actually on.

Better yet, since it appears you have a grasp on Automatic Updating,
change Automatic Updates setting to " Download updates for me, but let
me choose when to install them. "
That way *you* can decide when to install them just in case a system
restart is required.
