Why in the hell to do the sniveling programing weenies at MS have to
automatically restart my computer. I work for a living and when I turn on my
computer it is because I have something to do! When I turn my back on my
computer to answer a phone call my computer restarts and I loose the work I
have done on my open files. If I am smart enough to use a computer I can
certainly figure when I want to restart my GD computer. I sure as hell don't
need some greasy four eyed programer doing it for me. Stay the hell out of
my life - let me retart my computer when it is convenient for me. After all,
I am YOUR customer and the customer IS ALWAYS RIGHT you bunch of controlling
weenies.

Two things:

Reset your auto updates to inform but not download and install instead
of the setting YOU have now.

Or:

Move up to a real operating system that rarely needs rebooting like
Ubuntu. It's free and can be gotten at http://www.ubuntu.com/

HOW TO: Configure and Use Automatic Updates in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306525

Have AU notify you instead of automatically downloading or in the
alternative, schedule when to install, or turn the thing off - you have
choices.
