using windows xp sp2, i had my automatic update set to download but notify me
so i could install. i was notified yesterday of a critical update that had
downloaded, and i installed it. i restarted my computer, and the same dowload
kept repeating at startup. i kept trying to install it and it would fail.
to stop this from reoccuring, i went back to my windows update settings and
changed the settings to complete automatic, the recommended settings. meaning
my system will now download AND install all critical updates.
then i did the ol' reboot, only it was an overnight reboot. i shut my
computer off, went to bed, and prayed.
woke up this morning and the driver was installed and the update
notification stopped popping up. went to windowsupdate webpage and checked my
installation history and i see that the download and install was succesfull.
(it was a new driver for my Intel Graphics Controller)
hope this helps someone else.
later....russell munson
