"alice",
I'm not sure what happened, but I am sorry you ran into that issue. At this
point, since it is running, perhaps the most prudent move would be to set a
Restore Point here, and then manually scan for updates to verify you have
everything. Set another Restore point when that is complete.
In Windows XP:
1. Verify that you have at least 200MB free on the System Drive:
a. Click Start
b. Click Run
c. Type: cmd <Enter>
d. Type: dir %SystemDrive%\ <--This output will result in returning you
to the cursor.
e. Look at the last line of the output, and verify that the value is
greater than "209,715,200 bytes free"
2. Close all programs
3. Click Start
4. Click Run
5. Type: msconfig <Enter>
6. In the System Configuration Utility that opens, click the General tab
7. Click the "Launch System Restore"
8. Select "Create a Restore Point" and then click Next
9. Enter a descriptive name in the "Restore point description" field, bearing in
mind that the date and time will be added to it.
10. Click Create
Let us know how this goes.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
