Win XP SP2 512 ram celeron2k
Every attempt to use any function of this new update system
freezes computer. Even befor I installed SP2.
The older update system always worked good! Is there any way
to get the old update system back?

Systems with Windows XP now use V5 of Windows Update website --- just fyi.
Be very clear if it is only Automatic Updates, or if it is the W U website.
Use Notepad or Wordpad and open & look at the log file
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

Scroll down all the way. Get / copy / paste back here the set of lines for
the last session.

For the second time today--here is the info you asked for. I don't know what
happened to it the first time?

It no longer seems to freeze the computer but, when accessed, I just get a
blank window and it can't be shut down for many minutes. It does finally go
away and the computer can finally be shut down.

Your versions of the Windows Update controls appear to be one issue.
Hopefully by going to the v5 site with the HTTPS protocol will result in a refresh of these controls.
Type in or click this web address (first save / close your open user apps)

Thank you Maurice, I appreciate you trying to help me but, it still
won't work right. It is very likely that I did something wrong on the
first download of it. I'm just going to leave it disabled and continue
to use MBSA. Again, thank you.
