Auto Update isn't

I have Vista Ultimate set to receive and install updates automatically from
Microsoft Update. For the last several months, Vista shows that Windows is up
to date when I go to the Microsoft Update site, even on Patch Tuesday. To
show the available updates, I have to instruct Windows to Check for Updates
manually. After searching for new updates, it then lists the critical updates
for installation. I can download and install them just fine manually. The
Auto Update functionality just isn't working. There are no error messages.
Does anyone know what I need to to to correct this?

I have the same problem. I've turned off the automatic updates, unchecked
Microsoft Update and downloaded the updates manually.
Now, I'm experiencing another problem - I can't run Microsoft update. When I
try to install it I'm redirected to the Windows update page. However, there's
something strange. I don't get the message that I have Windows Vista and the
updates are running separately from IE...

Any ideas how to fix the Microsoft and automatic updates?
