Auto Update Loop for KB831167

I read the messages on this topic but I wasn't able to follow the fix that
Uptodater employed.

My Machine: XP Pro 2002 SP1 (SP2 can't be installed due to program conflicts
with sofware I need to use). IE Explorer 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.040919-1003
with updates SP1, Q823353;Q832894;Q824145;Q82875

Everyday, my autoupdate loop says that it needs to install KB831167 to
resolve issues with Q832894, which was installed earlier for IExplorer.

I don't find any .inf or .pnf files for 831167 on C:\ Ther are no registry
entries, except for the one that stored the run command..no installed updates
...... However, I do have Q831167[1].EXE-14034FEF.pf in the prefetch
directory.

Long Story short, the command C:\windows\ieuninst /q
c:\windows\inf\q831167.inf
did not work since I dont have the .inf file. Everyday I install and
everyday windows tells me I need to install it again.

Please Help!

Hi

I suggest you manually download and install the latest Cumulative
Security Update for Internet Explorer (MS04-040/KB889293) and see if
that helps (it includes and superseedes the update in KB831167).

Download link for IE6 SP1 is found here:

If KB831167 still wants to be installed, I suggest you just hide the
update.

Windows XP Hotfix KB889293 is already installed.

Hi

Then you just need to hide the update (that should be possible
because KB831167 is not a critical security update).
