This week it was announced that there are Critical Updates for MS

Thanks

Only if you have upgraded from Windows Update to Microsoft Update.

At the Microsoft Update web site, click "Change Settings", check "Disable
Microsoft Update software and let me use Windows Update only", the click
"Apply changes now".

The advantage of Microsoft Update is that it provides updates (both on
demand and automatically) for Microsoft products other than Windows, as well
as for Windows. It additionally supports Office 2002/XP, 2003, SQL Server,
and so on, and may expand its coverage in the future.

I have not experienced any, but some other posters reckon MU causes more
background activity than WU in terms of processor time and/or disk usage.
