When you turn the computer on the updates will be brought down to your
computer. It may take an hour or so for Windows Update to initiate the
check.
I have installed Vista over a hundred times. It is always during the
daytime. Yet upon reaching the desktop the updates are downloaded, whatever
the time of day may be - even though the default update time is set for 3:00
am.
