Auto Updates not so Auto.

I am finding that most of my machines have auto-update turned on but for some
reason do not actually download and/or install anything. - I see a
notification (yellow shield) that has me manualy download/install these
updates. If my settings say download and install at 3am why is this happening.

Is it because I am using microsoft update instead of windows update?

OS? Version of WU?

That may be a clue for us about your OS? At least it's a clue that you
aren't using WUv4 so the above troubleshooting info should be relevant.

Here is the tail of the log files on one of our servers running 2003 standard.
There is a notification saying updates are downloaded and ready to install.
Why wont they install themselves and notify me if a reboot is required?

Perhaps that is the option that you have chosen?

Run... control wuaucpl.cpl

Looks like you have selected: Download updates for me, but let me chose when to install them.
