If I setup automatic updates and then change the user account from admin to
standard user or power user permissions, will the automatic download and
install still work on W2K Pro SP4 & WXP SP2 boxes?

Yes, if you have already downloaded and agreed to install. Group Policy in
your network is a factor, though.
