Why would it do such a thing?!
My new laptop running Vista, etc, etc, turns on automatically at 3am.
Anyone know how to change this setting?

It may be something to do with Auto-update
(fixes are sent at 3am)

To verify if this is any auto update issue check the update history
Control Panel > Windows Update > View Update History
and see if an update corresponds to your laptop waking up.

Then check your auto update settings.
Control Panel > Windows Update > Change Settings

I vaguely recall a previous poster having a similar issue if
"install updates automatically" was selected.

Choose one of the other options.

Hi,

Check Task Scheduler for something timed to go on then, like antivirus
software updating or daily scan.

Hi,

Based on my wild guess, do you mean the system will power on at 3 am?

If so, check your BIOS (read the manual for how to get into BIOS setup) and
see if there is an Auto On or similar setting (usually under Power
Management) and see it has been turned on.

Newer models have this setting and default value usually is OFF, but it
could be turned on for some reasons.

Good luck.

You can also check your BIOS. Many have a wake-up feature.

Windows Update installs at 03:00, try moving it to another time. I take it
the system is going back to sleep after finishing, usually takes 2 or 3
minutes?
