I have downloaded & installed servicepack 2 on my computer. The Msft
Help
menu asks me if I wish updates to be installed automatically and if so
"pick a time to install updates".

My question, & I'm sure this shows my ignorance, but I can learn only
by asking, is: Can updates be installed automatically if the computer
has been shut down during the time selected, OR, must the computer be
on, up & running, for automatic
updates to be installed?

best, Aaron

I'm learning too. But SP2 was installed by auto updates while my computer was
in standby mode at 3a.m.. I'm not sure if it does the same when the computer
is turned off.

Your computer does have to be turned on and running in order to get updates.
However, I have found that SP2 has a few "bugs' in it yet so I decided to
wait a while before I install it. My printer stopped working after
installing SP2 and neither Microsoft or Lexmark could help me with the
problem. Finally Microsoft suggested that I wait a while before I re-install
SP2. I'm gonna take that advice!
