Automatic horizontal scrolling in tree views

You can see an example of this behaviour in the way the left-hand pane in
Vista's Explorer folders list view 'bounces' around all the time.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening? It is REALLY annoying!

Happy to edit the registry if there is an appropriate entry...
