Clicked to accept proposed security update. Error message: Cannot install.
Found error code 0x80242008. Any hints, please?
Having XP home SP2, IE6, so far fully updated

Inge,

Has the Program Files directory been moved from the root drive ?
(the drive/partition where Windows is installed to, usually C:\)

To get the update installed, open the registry editor and check this
subkey setting - (Start > Run > type in regedit > Click OK)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion

In the right frame check the Data for "ProgramFilesDir"
To get the update to install it should point to the same partition that
Windows is installed on
If C:\ is the root, it should read - C:\Program Files

OR, you can move the Program Files folder with the same software you
moved it with back to the root, install the update, reboot, and then
move it back to where you want it to be.

I am receiving the same problem. I recently installed Acrobat 8 trial version and the process spoolsv.exe is going crazy hogging my system resources. I'm not sure if they are all related but after experiencing the problem with the Spoolsv.exe process I tried to run Microsoft updates on my machine and could not because of a 0X80070001 error when installing KB922760.

Thanks,

Joe

Uninstall it and see if the spool issue and error code goes away.
