Automatic Log-out / Lock

Hello,

After countless hours searching online and into the depths of Vista, I've
nearly given up. I cannot figure out how to disable the occurrence of Windows
Vista Beta 2 automatically locking the computer after 10 minutes of
inactivity. I've completely disabled any sleep features, and the option
"require password after recovery from sleep", and nothing seems to do it.

In the process I've basically disabled every security feature present in
this new OS, just out of shear desperation. I display presentations that may
not have keyboard / mouse input for two hours, but the monitor is still being
viewed. I do not want the automatic log-out to occur at all.

I hope I've just overlooked some very simple adjustment, because I really
love Vista otherwise, despite its current kinks.

By default, the screen saver is set to come on after 10 minutes of
inactivity, which also causes your workstation to lock.

To disable the screensaver:

- Right-click on your desktop
- Click Personalize
- Click Screen Saver
- Click the drop-down box where it says Windows Logo, and select (None) from
the list
- Click OK

Is that what you needed?

I have exactly the same problem, I watch TV in media center, and it
automatically keeps locking itself! SO ANOYING.

I have turned off every option I can find relating to sleep, screensavers,
power options.. still no go.

Gpedit.msc. You should be able to find a local security policy (probably
under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies that should
help.

Yes, oh GOD, PLEASE, SOMEONE! What's the whole damn idea!? Vista, the best
system my eyes have ever seen, decided to lock my computer every time I leave
it. This even means that my wireless connection gets severed every time the
system does that, which seriously p****s me off, since I have a habit of
leaving the machine to do its downloading for me.
There is absolutely NO option anywhere to disable this. Someone help! And
please, no lame advice like "turn off screensaver" or "or configure power
plan". It's not there. Changing policy settings does not work either (no such
option available).

The Key word is "Never"
Never, Hibernate or Sleep if plugged in.
My monitor does go to blank after 10 minutes. No problems (I have
BOINC running).
Look at the "your" plans "Advanced" properties of Power options (it
hides, its blue), there is a setting for the wirelees there also.

Steve, thanks, but it doesn't work. You see, I had already reviewed every
power plan option, including the advanced ones. All that can be set to
"never" is set so (except display). However, the machine still gets locked by
Windows. It does NOT go to sleep or hibernate. It simply switches to the
log-on screen. Wireless connection gets severed in the process (set to
"Maximum Performance" under power plan). What is "BOINC"? Maybe its activity
prevents Windows from locking? I guess I could try using software to keep
Windows unlocked, but it just seems an inelegant solution...

BOINC is the control for distributed computing projects such as SETI,
Rosetta, Simap...
No it will hibernate with BOINC running unless you change the
settings.
Something is logging you out. Maybe it is some long forgotton security
tool (that just started working :/ as planned)
I am out of guesses.

Oops one more.
Do you have a UPS? Maybe it is signalling a Hibernate.

No, no UPS. Tell you what though- it stopped. REALLY weird. It's not locking
anymore, just like that. Maybe the power plan settings didn't register
earlier, I don't know. The system has its own secret life, obviously. Thatks
for all the suggestions anyway, it's nice to see people actually take notice.

Hi All!

Not sure if this will help, but it got rid of the locking screen for me....
Ok right click Desktop, then Personalization, then Screensavers, Screensaver
Settings and UNTICK the box that says *On Resume, display Logon Screen.
