Automatic security updates continue to fail. I have also attempted to
install manually, but the updates don't seem to be available when I searched
the Microsoft website. The following is my error message:

Security Update for Office 2003 (KB920813)...failed
Update for Office 2003 (KB925251)...failed
Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB933666)...failed
Security Update for Word 2003 (KB934181)...failed
Security Update for Office 2003 (KB934180)...failed
Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB934708)...failed
Update for PowerPoint 2003 (KB933669)...failed

How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the Office Update Web
site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498

You receive an "Error 80070643" error message when you try to update Office 2003 by using
Software Update Services
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=903772

The most common cause is because of registry cleaners, have you used one recently?

You haven't given the expert much to go on. I have no idea what you problem
is and no clue about the intricacies of update but worked through a problem
myself recently. Well, almost. No, I lie. I got help here. HOWEVER, your
problem looks suspiciously like mine. Did you get further error why you
tried manual update?

You receive a "The necessary services are disabled or unavailable" error message when you
connect to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site or to the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883822

For your other issue - the the General Newsgroup for XP

Thanks. Yes, I have used a registry cleaner, and my guess is that may be the
problem. I guess it's time to reinstall.

Thanks.

Im also getting the exact same failed updates in the same order as the
original poster...

Recently i had the Virtumonde.FP virus and also TrojanDownloader.ConHook and
Win32/Spy.VBStat.J but managed to remove them. The failed updates began when
i had those infected files on my laptop.
VundoFix sorted out those problems with the viruses/spyware but really
strange things are happening now with my laptop whenever i run any Microsoft
programs like Outlook 2003, IE7, Explorer and even a few other programs like
Fireworks slow down now as well. Something is causing the PC to use a lot of
cpu power and its driving me nuts!

I did try using that program muBlinder the other day (even though my copy of
XP is completely legal, i just wanted to check it out, see what it looked
like...) but i think it may have done something to stop the updates from
working by using muBlinder...

Anyone got any ideas?

@Fran: You've got much more work to do to make sure the machine's clean.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
