Automatic Update Error

I am trying to run automatic update and continue to receive a message
stating, "site cannot continue because one or more of these Window services
is not running:
Automatic Updates
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
Event Log
The error code that shows is error number: 0x80070422.
The Automatic Update is disabled and when I try to switch it to Automatic
and then click start it will not allow it to happen.
I have checked my firewall settings and I don't believe anything has
changed, but I'm not that familiar with computers and am looking for any
suggestions.

Chances are that you're seeing the affects of a hijackware infection (cf.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:

3. Run additional checks for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
