Automatic Update gets disabled (perhaps a virus?)

I posted about this earlier, but it seems this message board doesn't move up
posts, so after the first few people responded, no one saw it any more.

Anyway, bassically what is happening is Automatic Update keeps getting
disabled. If I right click on My Computer and check the Automatic Update
tab, it says it is on, but if I go Start/Run/services.msc it says Automatic
Update is stopped and disabled. I can then switch it to automatic, and then
start it. However, if I go back and check it about 10 seconds later, it will
be set to "disabled" again.

I did mannage to get all the Windows Updates, because I can connect to the
site durring that 10 second period. I also have Norton System Works 2003,
and have fully updated AntiVirus. So far it has not found anything. Neither
has AdAware, or Spybot Search and Destroy, both of which are updated.

The link to my previous post is below, if anyone whats to see what other
people have already asked me. If that link doesn't work, just search for my
name.

Ezekiel,

Here's how to find your original post :

Using a Web-based Newsreader
http://support.microsoft.com/default...le=toc#faq2148

Advise you to scan the system for ad|spy|malware :
http://www.auditmypc.com/patch-manag...-software-.asp
or here
http://www.pestscan.com/

If found on your system, have a look here for some guidelines for
removing them :
http://rgharper.mvps.org/cleanit.htm

Also, open the Service Console and check to see that BITS is set to
Manual.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, BITS is set on manual and seems to work fine.
Like I said, I already tried scans with both AdAware and Spybot Search and
Destroy, and they didn't find anything. I tried the two that you suggested
as well. The first one didn't find anything at all. The second one
(Pestscan) found a few tracking cookies, which I know arn't a big deal.
However, it also found 2 other things. One was an "Unknown Trojan - Key
Logger", and the other was a "Download Accelerator Plus - Browser Helper
Object". If I expand either of those, it lists a bunch of things, the first
ones in my temp folder, and the second ones in the regristry. I can copy and
past all of those if anyone would like to see them and help figure out what
is wrong.

I haven't yet had the chance to research exactly what those things are, or
how to fix them, so any clues would be great.

Thanks again.

You're welcome, Ezekiel ...
Do an online scan for trojans here :
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Download Hijack This :
http://www.aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip

Create a new folder on the C: drive and name it HijackThis. Extract
the .zip file to that folder.

Go to one of these forums for assistance, but read the guidelines
for posting FIRST :
