Automatic Update Hangs

Hi,

I recently try to run Windows Update on one of the machine that has
Windows 2000 on it. However, the web site would just hang (not
responding) and it would do the same thing if I try to open Control
Panel (not responding either). I could, however, run services.msc and
disable the automatic update and everything would come back normal
again.

I also ran
sfc /purgecache
sfc /scannow

and everything seems normal as well.

Just wondering, what are the possible cause for this and is there any
way to run the update manually?

Have to isolate the machine from the others for now just in case that
there is something that infected the automatic update but would like
to solve the problem once and for all.

Thank you,

Charlie
