Automatic Update Icon Appears, then Disappears without downloading the 9
updates for October 2005! .... Most likely the icon will appear later to
prompt user that critical updates are ready for installation when user is
busy using the pc.

Prefer not to use manual Microsoft Update.

How to more control over automatic update?

Thank

Be patient, sit back & relax. With so many updates being released, it'll
take some time for everyone to be offered then all, let alone
donwload/install them. If the updates haven't downloaded/installed by 18
Oct-05, post back.

At least a week IMO, given the large number of updates & users who need 'em.

This is the first time I have ever seen this happen. I have always had
Automatic Updates set to "Notify me but don't automatically download or
install them" and never have I seen the icon dissapear and not download
the updates after clicking it and telling it to go ahead and download.
That is not normal behavior for Automatic Updates. Unless of course
this behavior was implemented with this last wave of updates.

We saw similar behavior in Aug-05 with the release of merely six (6)
patches.

Patience is a virtue (and one seldom seen in 21st Century American culture
where we want it NOW!).
