automatic update missign files

was unable to use the windows update site; it stated I had missing files
but it will try to install and register them after giving the error message
: Files required to use Windows Update are no longer
registered or installed on your computer. To continue:

Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem


After i select r recommended ; it downloads and registers the files .then
again it starts scanning for missing files ,again it downloads and registers
them , again it says missing files and it goes on and on .


Please suggest the solution . Automatic updateson (recommended) is on in the
control panel -automatic updates but no update gets downloaded .Can you check
my machine for me ?????

3. After you paste the above commands, please close the Notepad window.
Choose Yes

when you are prompted to save the file.

4. Click Start, Run, type:

C:\register.bat and press Enter to run the commands I have pasted.

The Process may take sometime.

After this restart your computer and try Windows Update.

Some have reported that simply re-registering the MSXML3.DLL seems to fix the
problem.
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
Press okay

If that hasn't helped you may need to re-registered some more files:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-

net stop wuauserv

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
