I have had auto update set to d/l but let me install for quite some time.
I think it worked ok when I got this machine in May. I waited for SP2 to
show, but it never did. A buddy of mine down the street and on cable
modem (like me) got his via auto update. I went to the update web site,
and saw it was there, so I installed it.

Today I see there are two new updates for XP Home. Still it didn't show
as a autoupdate. I switched it off in the Control Panel and turned it on
to notify but let me download. I got the autoupdate notification, and hit
downlaod. Nothing happens. I am logged on as a adminstartor, I disabled
my firewall and virus detector, but still nothing.

Any ideas why downoads won't work, but installs from the Windows Update
site seem to work fine??

Hi

You could try the steps in this post to try to get WU to work:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...TNGP14.phx.gbl

If nothing of the above worked, try the steps in this post:

Here are some more steps you can try if the above was of no help:

"Software update incomplete" error message when you visit the
Windows Update Web site

You cannot install some updates or programs

Thanks Torgeir. I will try to get those checked out this weekend.

Any chance it could be router (port blocking) causing this? I do have a
another basic XP installation on this hard drive with no other software
installed other than XP updates. I don't think it wants to d/l either.

I have to play some more.
